Currently, Congress is chock full of well-meaning-but-business-as-usual politicians who are looking to not upset leadership or rock the boat. There needs to be a champion for the cause — and Aswar is that champion. He not only has deep experience with how Congress works, but he’s got the safety and security of his immigrant family on the line. To make this work, we need a kind, hard-working, and fearless leader like Aswar.

This is where Aswar’s experience in coalition building comes in. (He is a leader in very different environments, like the largest pro-democracy coalition of organizations in America, and a coalition of Southern cotton farmers looking to reclaim their export power). Aswar will unite and mobilize every incoming Congressmember from a district that has been brutalized by ICE, and he’ll corral them into a force that’s ready for the prosecution.

A silver lining from the atrocities is that much of it is recorded. We’re going to launch the largest Congress-to-Constituents evidence gathering of EVERY. SINGLE. VIOLATION. Every single protester protected by the First Amendment who was physically assaulted or intimidated. Every child and adult that was abducted and secretly flown to other countries and states. Every hero who was murdered in cold blood for the simple act of citizen supervision of lawless thugs who somehow got into uniform. EVERY. SINGLE. VIOLATION. will be accounted for, and a timeline of events will be constructed to the smallest detail, whether in the Metro Surge attacks on Minnesota, or any other ICE attacks around the country.

Under Aswar’s championing, Congress will launch a public investigation of ICE’s activities down to the finest detail in 2025 and 2026. Anyone who made an unlawful order AND anyone who obeyed it will be subject to investigation. All documents will be subpoenaed. All parties will be deposed. And all of this will happen with the eyes of the nation and the world watching.

NOTE: If the Democrats don’t have the majority on Jan 3, 2027, even then this power can be exercised, but rather than having all this happen in Congress proper, it will need to be done through field hearings, coordination with Attorneys General in the states, and independent agencies within the federal government, like the Government Accountability Office. It’s harder but not impossible, and certainly not an excuse to back away. If it takes years and years, so be it. Justice will win out.

This is the part where their house of cards topples. If Steps 1-4 are done right, then now the core defense that ICE has — “qualified immunity” — falls apart. And now every single person hurt or threatened by ICE in 2025-2026 will be able to take their attackers to court. Those masks aren’t going to be of much use when Congress knows exactly who used the guise of immigration enforcement to violate the Constitution. This avalanche of litigation will be led by the people of Minnesota, who will not let the attack on us go unpunished.

After lawbreakers are held to account by mass litigation, we will demand that payments and restitution are made to those injured. Then, a weakened ICE will be brought to the floor of Congress. This same Congress created ICE in 2023. Now, 24 years later, it must end it. But that only happens after justice is upheld, and every single ICE crime is accounted for and made right.
